Roadtripping USA: Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park

One of the things on our must-do -list was a visit to Yosemite. Honestly, we had seen the famous photos by Ansel Adams and such, but we had no idea what to expect.

The first day we got there was Saturday. A big mistake. The line of cars waiting to get in to the park started miles before the main gate. And mind you, even after you get through the gates, there are still miles and miles to drive.

Anyhow, after hours of sitting in the car we finally managed to get to the Tunnel view, one of the most famous images of Yosemite, parked the car and started climbing up to the Inspiration point. Nice views, you have to admit.

After some uphill climbing we got back to the car and headed to Half Dome Village, but soon learnt that the traffic had only got worse. It must have taken us nearly an hour to drive that 10 miles or so, but we eventually made it and parked the car. We took only a short hike to Mirror Lake.

Valley Loop Trail

After spending the Saturday mainly in the car and waiting to get through, we decided not to even try to get to the park on Sunday and changed our plans to Monday. On Monday we took the 20 and some kilometers long Valley Loop trail for we weren´t feeling the urge to climb and knew this trail would not be too crowded. Here are the photos from that very, very beautiful and relaxing trail.

If I went back…

If I ever got back there, I´d definitely avoid getting there on weekends. Sitting in the car and trying to find a parking spot was a nightmare. Also we never got on top of the Half Dome. Maybe next time.
